The COA Board of Directors met electronically on March 21, 2020, in lieu of the annual meeting that we would have held at Middlesex Community College on the same day if not for the coronavirus outbreak that has impacted our local community and the world.
We voted in the new slate of officers and board members (after voting in a new provision to the bylaws permitting us to take this action).
The officers for COA for the coming year will be:
Chris Loscalzo, President
Tom Robben, Vice-President
Paul Wolter, Treasurer
Denise Jernigan, Secretary
The new board members are: Allison Black and Larry Reiter
The recipient of the Mabel Osgood Wright Award is: George Zepko
The recipient of the Betty Kleiner Award is: Bruce Stevenson
The recipients of the President’s Award are: Christine Howe and Tom Robben
The recipient of the Zepko Audubon Summer Camp Scholarship is: Eli Holton
We observed a moment of remembrance for the two giants of the CT Birding Community that we lost in recent months: Joe Zeranski and Neil Currie.
The recipients of the mini-grants were notified of their awards.
Although COA will not be meeting as a group for a while, we remain committed to the members of our community, our local environment, and the birds that rely on our natural areas for their survival. We will continue to do all that we can to maintain the health and safety of the people of Connecticut, while continuing to advocate for our local wildlife and environment. We will continue to contribute to the CT Bird Atlas Project and the Summer Bird Count. We look forward to the day in the future when it will be safe for us to congregate in a common space to share our interests, accomplishments and passion.
Chris Loscalzo,
COA President
