Audubon CT Bent of the River: Winter Sowing at the Bent
February 15 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
$20Winter Sowing at the Bent!
Join us for a morning of Winter Sowing, and a PowerPoint presentation about Native Plants and their ability to support wildlife, especially pollinators and plant-eating insects that provide protein-rich food for birds and animals. Growing bird-friendly plants will attract and protect the birds you love while making your space beautiful, easy to care for, and better for the environment.
What is winter sowing you ask?
Winter sowing is a seed-starting technique where seeds are started outdoors in containers in late autumn or winter. The cold weather stratifies the seeds and prompts germination when the time is right. Many native perennials require stratification, which uses temperature and moisture to soften the seed coat and break seed dormancy.
Please bring your own transparent or translucent containers with lids. Salad clamshells work as well as gallon milk containers cut in half. We will provide containers for those of you who don’t have them.
$20.00 per person
