Audubon CT Greenwich: Art Show opening Trash to Treasure by Chris Duncan

January 23, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Greenwich Audubon Center is excited to announce our newest art exhibition in Kiernan Hall: ‘Trash To Treasure’ by Chris Duncan. All are invited to join us for the opening reception on Thursday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. where refreshments will be served and attendees will have a chance to meet the photographer. The displayed works will be for sale with portions of proceeds benefiting the Greenwich Audubon Center’s conservation efforts.

This event will also feature a presentation of live hawks, falcons & owls by Skyhunters in Flight. Many of these birds which you will see in person are featured in Chris’s artwork of bird & wildlife collages.

Following the opening reception this exhibit will remain in Kiernan Hall until March 31 2025 for all visitors to come observe and purchase pieces.

Admission is FREE for the reception but RSVPs are required to determine capacity.

About the Artist:

Growing up, I was constantly drawing and doodling, and to this day there is nothing more I would rather do than create something. I love working with my hands and have always been crafty. My children can attest that “I never saw a glue gun I didn’t like.” I probably should have gone to art school, but instead I went to North Carolina for a textiles degree and ended up in marketing, which has served me well throughout the years.

After college, I landed in New York City and started working in the fashion business. But after having twins 30 years ago, I am still struggling to figure out my next artistic trail. I take a regular water color class with Hazel Jarvis but have always loved mixed media. I have been lucky enough to take collage classes with Apple Bartlett, daughter of Sister Parish, and this has taken me on a new venture.

She is my inspiration. During the summer, I enjoy dabbling and doodling in water colors. It is a time to enjoy all the wonderous, little things that are right under my nose.” – Chris Duncan

About the Exhibit:

My latest experiment is finding pieces of art that have been thrown away and then transforming them by collaging on top of them. Each of the paintings in this gallery started out as something that was being thrown away. I love the “trash to treasure” concept and the high-low aesthetic.

It makes me happy to create these collages and I hope it makes you happy to know that 100% of the purchase price of my work will go directly to supporting the work of the Greenwich Audubon Center.

I love the idea of passing on the happiness I receive by creating art, and it is especially rewarding to share that joy through donation to a worthy cause, such as our local Audubon Center.

The program is FREE but participants must register in advance through our online ticket sales page. There will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the program.
