Audubon CT Greenwich: Intro to The Great Backyard Bird Count at Cos Cob Library
February 15, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
FreeJoin us at Cos Cob Library to learn how your family can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, one of the largest Community Science projects in the world, right in your own backyard and neighborhood. Ryan MacLean, Senior Education Coordinator at the Greenwich Audubon Center, will introduce you to some of the most common winter birds in our area and explain how you can count these birds this weekend and become part of the ‘Community Science’ team through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
All participants will receive a color chart of common backyard birds and can receive instruction on how to set up a free e-Bird account with the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology to keep track of birding records this weekend and from now on both at home and around the world. At the end, Ryan will take the group on a brief walk outside to conduct our own bird count at Mill Pond, located across the street from the library. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars and dress warmly for cold weather.
There is a strict capacity limit of 40 people so please register in advance.
Cos Cob Library is located at 5 Sinawoy Rd, Cos Cob CT approximately 20 minutes from the Greenwich Audubon Center. A GoogleMaps coordinate of the location can be used HERE.
