Join Birding for Pleasure in Durham/Middlefield for a free bird walk.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 6th at 2 PM – 5 PM est. Rain date Thursday, July 7, 2022
LOCATION: Meet at Fredrick White’s Farm open space (Durham Meadows) 70 Maple Ave, Durham, CT 06422.
We will begin at Fredrick White’s Farm open space. Then we may drive 2 miles to Strickland Farm Conservation area with the focus on Bobolinks.
Patrick Comins, executive director for Connecticut Audubon Society, will lead the walk. Patrick is a leading authority on the conservation of Connecticut birds and the habitats that support them. He has written several articles for The Connecticut Warbler, Connecticut Ornithological Association’s (COA) journal. Patrick plays a key role in the conservation of critical bird habitats throughout Connecticut, including town own grasslands in Durham and Middlefield.
Fredrick White’s and Strickland Farm are town owned and both serve as important wildlife corridors for birds and insects, some of which are endangered or threatened.
- Bring your binoculars, drinking water, bug repellent and wear waterproof shoes or boots. It may be very muddy.
- Vortex binoculars are available to borrow with your library card at the Durham Public Library and Middlefield Levi E. Coe Library through a CVEF grant.
- No dogs
- Social distance preferred. The wingspan of a bald eagle.
Birding for Pleasure is a nonprofit whose goal is to engage communities in conversation, restoration and enjoyment of nature focusing on birds, wildlife and their habitats.
