COA Workshop (In-person): Aerial Insectivores

April 26 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Join us for a *FREE* in-person workshop to learn more about Aerial Insectivores, specifically those that we can find here in Connecticut. The presentation will be led by COA’s Joe Attwater. Joe is a Connecticut native and the Conservation & Education Coordinator for the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center in Old Lyme.

The presentation will go over key terminology, specific species, the occasional rare ones we see, and what makes this group one of interest. We’ll be focusing on Swifts, Swallows, Flycatchers, and Nightjars, but Joe will also highlight some of the other species that occasionally feed “on the wing”.

The presentation begins at 10AM in the Community Room of the Scranton Memorial Library in Madison, Connecticut. We will have light snacks and a break for lunch (not provided). The break will also give you the opportunity to visit the nearby Audubon Shop as well. The field portion is planned to take 1.5 hours, but you are welcome to stay and bird for longer.

After the break, we’ll reconvene at Hammonasset Beach State Park where we’ll break into groups and search for Aerial Insectivores in the field. Please note, this field-trip is not required for participation in the presentation at the library.

Space is limited, so preregistration is required by April 23rd. Please email workshops@ctbirding.org to confirm your spot.
