Lucy Walker – Bald Eagles at the Shepaug Dam
Lucy Walker, Site Manager for Shepaug Eagle View, has put together a history of the Bald Eagle Observation Site, located in Southbury, CT. It is a prominent location for observing the state’s bald eagle population. The site became well-known as a prime spot for eagle watching during the winter months, particularly for viewing eagles that
gather along the river to feed on fish. It is also a significant educational resource for the public and a hub for bird watchers interested in the region’s growing bald eagle population. In 1985 it was discovered that migratory bald eagles were coming to the Shepaug Hydroelectric plant for easy access to fish when all other bodies of water were
frozen. Since the opening of the Observation Site, over 150,000 visitors have come to see bald eagles.
